Vogue Pre-Fall 2018 Review

December 2017, PF18 by Emily Farra

Sally LaPointe enjoys a lot of direct communication with her customers, and through trunk shows, email, and Instagram, she’s learned that many of her best sellers—namely her famous fur-trim sweaters—are beloved not just by It girls like Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, but by women of all ages and sizes. For Pre-Fall 2018, she zeroed in on each garment and considered how every little detail might appeal to a woman in her twenties or her sixties, or how a new metallic thread would flatter a range of curves. For instance, she insisted that a sage knit skirt that looked unforgivingly slim on the hanger was actually super flattering on the body.

LaPointe’s specialty sweaters and silky evening separates are typically an easy sell because of their relaxed spirit; new must-haves this season included the ultra-high paper-bag waist pants in glossy satin or a weightless metallic fabric. They felt like a continuation of the streetwear influence she’s explored in the past, and will be a hit with the Jenner-Hadid clique. On that note, there was also a sweatshirt dress in soft taupe with fluffy fur sleeves—definitely It-girl material, but subtle enough for your elegant mom, too.
